W/B 20/01/2020

I would like to say a big thank you to the parents who came into class on Monday, after the school website launch – THANK YOU! The children were very excited and proud.

This week we have been doing many interesting learning activities.  We have been:

  • Writing adverbs using the suffix ly.
  • Writing ideas for questions, to ask about the skate park in Tonyrefail.
  • Writing whether each angle is acute, right or obtuse.
  • Using a protractor to identify and measure right angles on 2D shapes.
  • Sorting 2D shapes into polygons and shapes with curved sides.
  • Discovered new information about Tonyrefail.
  • Creating and performing a floor sequence.
  • Welsh second language ‘Sut oedd y tywydd..?’

Da iawn, a great effort on the spelling tests! What was your score?

Bendigedig! We had some great scores for the big maths tests this week.  Ask your child if he/she beat their big maths score.

W/B 03/02/2020

We have been very busy this week.

In literacy we have been doing work on poems.  We have been investigating similes, metaphors and rhyming words.

In Mathematics we have made a tally chart by asking friends about their favourite things. We then used the information from the tally chart to create a bar chart.

Big Maths Test - Did your child moved up a level this week?

The scratch test investigation has been popular this week.  The children have been enjoying taking part in the fair test.  Da iawn

What was Tref-Y-Rhyg primary school called in the past?  Ask your child.  We have been investigating similarities and differences in Tonyrefail.

Please remember to help your child with their spelling words. Thank you.

14.02.2020

This week we have been using story sacks to inspire writing.  We used a selection of interesting items/toys to encourage ideas for writing.  The children were given the opportunity to use talk in many different ways to enhance their story writing.  We had some AMAZING ideas! Ardderchog.  The children have developed their skills in creating different types of graphs and charts to represent data.  We have created wonderful loves spoons this week following research and work about Valentine’s day.  Here are some photographs.  I hope that you all have a wonderful half term.

W/B 22.02.2020

We had a great celebration for Welsh week.  The children entered a handwriting and art competition for the Eisteddfod.  In their Eisteddfod house groups the children performed a poem recital.  On Friday, we all enjoyed the Eisteddfod celebrations and we were proud of all the children for participating.  Well done to the children who earned an Eisteddfod certificate.  (Photographs to follow) Diolch, for the effort that was made for the Rhiannon Roberts inspired home tasks.  Da iawn pawb!

In Lucky Leopards, we studied temperature and we have stated to research and work on myths and legends.  Do you know any Welsh myths to share with your child?

W/B 03/03/2020 World Book Day

As well as celebrating World Book Day we have been learning to use money in our maths lessons.  In literacy we have been describing characters using adjectives and adverbs.  We have been looking at the temperature in Tonyrefail and comparing it to the temperature in Spain.   In science we have started a new fair test investigation.  To start the fair test we needed to weigh the rocks.

W/B 09/03/2020

We have continued with our rock investigation.  We soaked the rocks and worked together to weigh the rocks to see how much water each rock absorbed.  Then we recorded the results in a table.  Next week we will compare the weight of the dry and wet rocks.  In maths some of us have been comparing decimal numbers and rounding them to the nearest whole number.  Others have been adding 3-digit numbers.  In literacy we have been learning how to use speech marks in our writing.

This week we made our own personal targets for literacy.  Our targets are on display in our classroom.  We hope to achieve three ticks to show that we made it! Ask your child about their personal target.

Sport Relief

Lots of maths activities and new books with reading activities have been added to the Active Learn account for all children to access and in particular for children in self isolation. Further activities will be added throughout the week.  Please check on the class page.
